Perched on the side of a hill outside Breckenridge is a two-story log boardinghouse that was built in 1876 to house the miners of Colonel A.J. Ware’s Iowa Hill Placer Gold Mine. Today, visitors can take a guided one mile hike from the Iowa Hill Trailhead up to the boardinghouse. Along the way, mining relics tell the story of Iowa Hill and how gold was extracted from the surrounding hills. Visitors on the guided tour will have the chance to step inside the miners’ boardinghouse. Tours are weather permitting.

“The History of the Royal Tiger and B&B Mine Companies” presented by Bill Fountain.
This presentation will explain how John A. Traylor came to Breckenridge in 1917, purchased his first mine in the Swan River Valley and built it into the largest conglomerate by 1930 that was ever in Breckenridge. The history of the Royal Tiger and Cashier mines and mills in the Swan, the Jessie mine and mill in Gold Run and the Wire Patch, Lucky, Minnie and Wellington mines and mills will all be covered. It will cover the bankruptcy of the Royal Tiger Mines Company, the beginning and history of the B & B Mines Company and finally the purchase of the B & B properties by the Town of Breckenridge and County of Summit in 2006. There are over 220 photographs, many shown as "then" and "now." Finally, what remains today will be shown.
