Cancellations made 24 hours* before the scheduled start time will receive a full refund. Cancellations made with-in 24 hours will not be granted a refund. "Extenuating circumstances" cancellations are handled on a case-by-case basis; please contact June at email@example.com or 970-453-9767 x102 if you have an extenuating circumstance cancellation.
*Special events or private tours may require additional cancellation time. Private tour fees are non-refundable.
We will cancel a tour or hike for the following reasons:
1) if there is thunder and lightning in the area 10 minutes before the tour is scheduled to start
2) if the weather forecast predicts the temperature will be below zero degrees Fahrenheit at the start of the tour
3) there are extenuating weather/trail circumstances
In each of these cases, a full refund will be given to guests. Otherwise, tours and hikes are offered rain, snow or shine!
For the safety and comfort of our guides and other guests and due to the historical significance of our sites, pets are not allowed on tours or hikes. Service dogs as approved by the Americans with Disabilities Act are permitted, however, emotional support, comfort, or companion pets are not allowed.
For the safety and comfort of our guides and other guests we do not permit smoking (including e-cigarettes) on tours or hikes. The BHA reserves the right to request a guest leave a tour or hike if they are smoking.
As a guest, yes we encourage you to take souvenir photos but request you do not film tours and hikes. If you are interested in using one our sites for a photo shoot or would like to record film/video of or on a site, please contact Michele at firstname.lastname@example.org or 970-453-9767 x103 to complete a permit application.
Cell Phone Etiquette
Please put your cell phone on silent while on a tour so as not to interrupt the guide. We understand you may need to take an urgent call; if you do so, please be courteous to the guide and other guests and step away from the group and speak quietly.
Are advance reservations or payment required?
Advance reservations and payment are required for most of our tours and all of our hikes with the exception of the Walk Through History Tour.
How do I make a reservation?
You can CLICK HERE to purchase tickets online. Or you can call our reservation line at 970-453-9767 x2, or visit the Breckenridge Welcome Center at 203 South Main Street to make a reservation.
When should I arrive?
We ask that your arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the start time whether or not you have reservations. This allows our guides to check in all guests and begin on time.
Do I need to bring anything on a tour?
We recommend bringing water as most tours last more than an hour. Please dress appropriately for the weather and remember sunglasses and sunscreen for sunny days and extra warm layers for winter tours.
Do I need to bring anything on a hike or snowshoe?
Yes, hiking boots or sneakers are required for all hikes and waterproof boots are required for snowshoeing (we provide the snowshoes!). We also recommend bringing water and a snack. Please dress appropriately for the weather and remember sunglasses and sunscreen for sunny days and extra warm layers for winter hikes.
Am I expected to tip my guide?
Gratuities are never expected, but if you enjoyed your tour or hike, tips are always greatly appreciated! As people move to carry less cash with them, we do not yet have a great alternate way to tip your guide. However, if you contact the administrative office at or 970-453-9767 x2 we can add on a tip using the credit card you booked the tour with.
Are your tours ADA accessible?
We strive to make our tours as accessible as possible given the limitations of town streets and historic buildings. Please call us at 970-453-9767 x2 if you have a question about accessibility.
Tours that are ADA accessible: Historic Walking Tour, Breckenridge Haunted Tour and the Behind Swinging Doors Saloon Tour. BHA staff are not permitted to operate/assist with wheelchairs. We recommend that either the individual in the chair or a fellow guest can maneuver the chair up Washington Avenue from the Welcome Center to the Barney Ford House as that is the steepest incline the tours will travel on.
Tours that are accessible but may require extra effort: Tombstone Tales at Twilight Tour (the terrain is rough and uneven so may not be navigable with a standard wheelchair).
Mine Sites: Our mine sites are not well suited to wheelchairs with rough and uneven terrain and steps into most of the buildings.
Are children allowed on tours and hikes?
Yes, children of all ages are welcome on our tours and hikes with the exception of the Saloon Tour (guests must be 21+ years of age) and Ski Through History Tour (guests must be 10+ years of age). We offer child-priced tickets (ages 4-12) for most activities and children under 4 are always free with the BHA. Please note that unaccompanied minors are not allowed on any of our tours or hikes. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to join tours or hikes (including mine sites and gold panning).
If my children want to pan for gold but I don't, must I make a reservation and pay?
Yes, all guests must make a reservation and pay to join the Gold Panning at Lomax Gulch experience. We have strict guest capacity at our sites so all guests must be accounted for in the reservation.
Is the Haunted Tour appropriate for children?
If you are interested in bringing your child(ren) on the Haunted Tour, please be aware that this tour is comprised of eerie stories from the town's past but is not intended to be disturbing/terrifying. You are the best judge if your child(ren) will enjoy a haunted tour.
